Although it is impossible to get precise, up-to-date usage figures, most sources concur that there are more mobile phone subscriptions in Indonesia than there are people, the number of subscriptions ranging from 236.8 to 260 million. Indonesians are also the world's fourth largest subscribers to Facebook with nearly 44 million accounts. 2.4% of the world's total Twitter posts originate from Jakarta making the Indonesian capital the social media capital of the world and helping place the country in eighth position overall for Twitter usage. 87% of Indonesian tweets are made on mobile devices with Blackberry being the handset of choice. Considering all this, it is not surprising that a large number of advertisements appear on Indonesian television promoting both mobile handsets and telecommunication carriers.
